Economies of the Commons Conference April 2008

On April 11th-12th 2008, Dutch partners KL, Sound & Vision, the De Balie Centre for Culture and Politics, and P2P Fusion organized a two-day international conference on “the economies of the commons” in Amsterdam (NL) for over 200 participants.

Through workshops, lectures, and strategy formulation, the conference was able to address specific problems with relevant stakeholders regarding the following themes:

- Audiovisual Archives
- Commons-Based Peer Production
- Uncommon Business Models
- Professional Cultural Producers
- Intangible Heritage Resources in the (Non)Western World
- European Digital Library

The topics at the conference that were most relevant to P2P Fusion were orphan works and open content licensing for audiovisual material. Different issues and solutions were extensively compared and contrasted.

Preceding the conference was a one-day seminar regarding Intellectual Property Rights within the digital audio-visual domain. Over 80 attendees from 20 countries participated and the results were adapted into the full conference program.

The full program can be found at: www.ecommons.eu.
